Hamilton won 11 prizes at 2016 Tony awards event

Black actors won four awards in the 2016 Tony Awards function. In the function, based on the life of America’s founding father, Alexander Hamilton, hip-hop musical blockbuster ‘Hamilton’, has won 11 awards. Variety in Hollywood has been the subject of debates for a long time. Because very few black actors received the Oscar award this year, they started a campaign named as OscarSoWhite.

diHowever, the Tony Awards seems to establish new norms in this direction. Three awards of acting were given to ‘Hamilton’ where Leslie Odom Jr. met the best actor’s award. In addition to this, David Diggs won the best Featured actor award and Reilly Elysée won the best Featured actress award. After receiving the award Diggs said: “There is a big variety and I feel very proud to be a part of this diversity.” The actress Cynthia Arivo has won the ‘The Color Purple’ award for her performance. After the ceremony, the Tony Awards, tweeted: “For the first time in the history of the Tony Awards, all of the four awards have been won by the black actors”.
